This explains what personal information we collect, why, and what you can do about it. As a Quebec business we are governed by the Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector, as amended by Law 25, and by Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act.

What we collect
- Order information: your name, shipping and billing address, email, phone number, and what you bought.
- Payment information: handled by our payment providers. We never see or store your full card number.
- Account information: if you create an account, your login details and order history.
- Marketing information: your email address, only if you opt in.
- Technical information: IP address, browser, device and pages viewed, gathered through cookies and Shopify's built-in analytics.
- Correspondence: what you send us by email, phone or the contact form.
Why we collect it
- To process, ship and support your order.
- To handle returns, refunds and warranty claims.
- To answer your questions.
- To detect and prevent fraud.
- To meet our tax and accounting obligations.
- To send marketing email, only where you have opted in.
We do not use your information for anything beyond these purposes without asking you first, and we do not sell it.
Your order is shipped by a supplier outside Canada
This is the most important thing on this page, so we have given it its own section.
Our goods are shipped to you directly by suppliers located outside Canada. To deliver your order we must give the supplier and the courier your name, your delivery address, your phone number and the items you ordered. We do not send them your payment details.
Once that information is outside Quebec it is subject to the laws of the country it is in, and may be accessible to that country's courts and authorities. Under Law 25 we assess such transfers before making them and require our providers to protect the information to a standard comparable to Quebec's.
Who else we share it with
- Shopify, which hosts this store and processes data on our behalf, primarily in the United States.
- Payment processors, to take payment.
- Shipping carriers and customs brokers, to deliver your order and clear it through customs.
- Authorities, where the law requires it.
Consent
Placing an order gives us consent to use your information to fulfil it. Marketing email requires separate express consent. You can withdraw consent at any time, though withdrawing consent we need in order to complete an order may mean we cannot complete it.
Email marketing
Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation governs our commercial email. We only send marketing to people who have expressly opted in. Every message identifies us, carries our postal address and a working unsubscribe link. Unsubscribes are honoured within 10 business days, usually at once. Emails about an order you actually placed are transactional rather than promotional and will still reach you.
Automated processing
Shopify applies an automated fraud assessment to orders, which flags an order as higher risk based on signals such as the address, the payment method and the device. We use it as one input only. We do not cancel or refuse an order on the basis of that score alone, and if a decision affecting you were ever made by automated means you may ask us to review it yourself and to explain the reasons.
How long we keep it
Order and transaction records are kept for six years from the end of the tax year they relate to, which is the retention period Canadian tax law requires of us. Marketing contacts are kept until you unsubscribe. Everything else is destroyed once it is no longer needed for the purpose it was collected for.
Security
We use encrypted connections and access controls. No system is perfectly secure and we cannot promise absolute security. If a confidentiality incident presents a risk of serious injury we will notify you and the Commission d'accès à l'information, as Law 25 requires.
Your rights
- Access the information we hold about you.
- Correct anything inaccurate or incomplete.
- Withdraw consent at any time.
- Portability: receive your information in a structured, commonly used technological format.
- De-indexing: ask us to stop disseminating information about you, or to de-index it, in the circumstances Law 25 allows.
- Complain to us, and to the regulator if our answer does not satisfy you.
Write to info@decoreauremont.com. We respond within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity first.
Cookies
We use cookies to keep your cart working, remember your preferences and understand how the site is used. You can block or delete them in your browser, though parts of the store may stop working if you do.
Children
This store is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Complaints
Contact us first, using the details at the top of this page. If you are not satisfied you may complain to the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec at cai.gouv.qc.ca, or to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca.
